Many returnees carry invisible wounds — memories of hardship, experiences of rejection, and deep uncertainty about the future. Reintegration is not only about housing or employment; it is also about healing the mind, restoring dignity, and rebuilding trust.
At Forget Foundation, we recognize that psychosocial well-being is at the heart of successful reintegration.
That is why we provide advice and therapy services designed to support returnees emotionally, socially, and mentally as they begin a new chapter in life.
Why Advice & Therapy Matter
For many returnees, returning home does not mean an end to struggle. Instead, new challenges often appear:
Emotional Struggles: Returnees may experience trauma from their migration journey, anxiety about the future, depression due to loss, or survivor’s guilt.
Social Struggles: Families may feel strained by long separations, communities may hold prejudices, and returnees may feel isolated or unwelcome.
Reintegration Struggles: Without guidance and support, returnees may lack the confidence and coping skills needed to find work, resolve conflicts, or plan for the future.
Without advice and therapy, these challenges can undermine resettlement, livelihoods, and community acceptance. With the right support, however, returnees can regain resilience, strengthen relationships, and build hope.
Our Vision
We envision a future where every returnee has access to healing, dignity, and hope.
Advice and therapy should not be seen as luxuries but as essential steps in the reintegration journey.
Our vision is grounded in:
Dignity: Every returnee deserves respect, no matter their journey.
Healing: Addressing emotional scars is as important as economic support.
Inclusion: Therapy must be culturally sensitive and community-driven.
Empowerment: Returnees are not passive recipients but active participants in their healing.
Our Approach to Advice & Therapy
At Forget Foundation, we believe in a holistic, compassionate, and practical approach. Our services include:
☼ 1. Individual Counseling
We offer one-on-one sessions with trained therapists to help returnees process trauma, stress, and uncertainty.
These sessions provide a safe and confidential space for returnees to share their stories and find guidance for the future.
☼ 2. Group Therapy & Peer Support
Sometimes healing is found in community.
We organize group sessions where returnees share experiences, learn from one another, and build networks of mutual support.
Peer groups reduce isolation and foster solidarity.
☼ 3.Family Mediation
Returning home can be complicated.
Families may feel resentment or confusion, and returnees may struggle to reconnect.
Our mediation sessions help families rebuild trust, resolve conflicts, and restore harmony.
☼ 4. Life Skills & Advice
Reintegration requires practical tools. We provide advice and training in:
Decision-making and problem-solving.
Financial management and stress reduction.
Conflict resolution and communication skills.
These life skills empower returnees to navigate everyday challenges with confidence.
☼ 5.Referral & Specialist Support
When needed, we connect returnees to specialized care, such as hospitals, psychologists, or rehabilitation centers.
We believe no one should face mental health challenges alone.
A Story of Healing:Wachira's Journey
Wachira returned home after years abroad, but his journey left deep scars.
He struggled with anxiety, nightmares, and fear of community rejection.
At home, tensions with his family made resettlement even harder.
Through our advice and therapy programme, Wachira began individual counseling sessions, where he slowly learned coping strategies for his trauma.
He joined a peer-support group of other returnees, where he discovered he was not alone.
Finally, with the help of our family mediation team, Wachira and his relatives began to rebuild trust.
Today, Wachira is not only stable and confident, but he also volunteers as a peer mentor to help other returnees heal.
His story shows that with the right support, healing is possible and reintegration becomes sustainable.
This was in Ngong Town, Kajiado North.
Community & Cultural Sensitivity
We know that therapy is sometimes misunderstood or stigmatized in certain cultures.
That is why our approach is rooted in cultural sensitivity and respect. We:
Provide counseling in local languages.
Involve community and faith leaders where appropriate.
Frame therapy as guidance, advice, or dialogue to make it more accessible.
Train our staff to respect cultural values while promoting mental well-being.
This approach ensures that returnees feel understood, not judged.
Partnerships for Greater Impact
Healing is a shared effort. We collaborate with:
Health NGOs and clinics to provide medical and psychological support.
Faith-based organizations to bridge cultural and spiritual needs.
Local governments and social services to ensure long-term care.
International organizations like IOM and UNHCR for technical guidance and funding.
Through partnerships, we amplify our impact and ensure no returnee is left behind.
Our Values in Action
Our advice and therapy programmes are guided by compassion and professionalism.
We do not see returnees as “cases” but as individuals with stories, strengths, and futures.
By combining psychosocial support with reintegration assistance, we ensure that returnees are not only surviving but thriving.
